Is it Actually Possible to be Clutter Free?
Clutter free! Sounds nice doesn't it?
A New Year
It was the beginning of a new year and I had decided it was time! Time to get rid of the clutter that was seemingly overtaking my house. Have you been there? Where you just look around and you wonder where in the world did all this stuff come from? If you are a teen maybe you look around your room and feel the same way?
For months before I kept thinking how nice it would be to get rid of some things, but hadn't had the time to begin. Christmas was over, the New Year had begun and I was ready!
Clutter in our homes
This started off kind of easy. It was surprising to me how quickly I was able to decide what to keep and what to give away. The kitchen was where I began and I worked my way into my son's room, my closet, my husband's closet, and the other closets in the house. I could not believe how good it felt to get rid of so much. We had way more than we needed and it was just continuing to accumulate. Our house began to feel bigger and I was gaining peace as this process continued! (I am still working on decluttering by the way).
Clutter in our hearts
Then, the Lord brought the thought to my mind... of all the extra things we carry in our hearts and on our minds. Wouldn't it be great if we could just take one worry at a time and donate it to the thrift store? If we could take that heavy burden and just throw it in a garbage bag and have the trash man take it away, never to have it again!
The Lord tell us in 1 Peter 5:7, To cast all of our cares on Him, because he cares for us.
To cast means to throw off or away; to get rid of; discard. Care means: suffering of mind: grief. A disquieted state of mixed uncertainty, apprehension, and responsibility.
Wow! I can give my cares and worries to the Lord.
I know at times I don't cast my cares upon Him, because, well, because...I don't trust God like I should. At times I am afraid. How about you?
Easier said than done
I believe if we could just grasp the fact that God wants us to bring our problems, worries, and fears to Him, because He knows what to do. God knows the answers and I know that He already has a plan to take care of these things.
When I was about 5 or 6 years old, I was playing with a balloon. I only had one balloon and it was my favorite. I was having a blast and then the worst thing happened... it POPPED!!!! Tears began to fall on my face. I remember my mom was on the phone with my grandpa at the time. He asked why I was crying and my mom told him my balloon had popped.
My grandpa loved me very much, as I did him, and he did not want his precious little granddaughter upset. So, he bought me not 1 balloon but 100 balloons!! Made. My. Day. Problem solved!
When I think of our relationship with the Lord, I believe that He does not want to see us upset and hurting, but wants us to come to Him to comfort us. Now my grandpa could not come and un-pop my balloon and put all the pieces back together, but he came up with a solution for my problem. The Lord will not come and un-do our problems, but I guarantee you He will have a solution. It may not be the solution we want at the time, but it will be what is best for us- always.
As a little kid, I didn't understand why my balloon popped, but I did know that when I had a problem I could go to my parents or grandparents. As children of God, we too can go to Him and cast our cares upon Him.
Is there clutter in your heart
Clutter means to fill or cover with scattered or disordered things that impede movement or reduce effectiveness; A crowded or confused mass or collection.
Think about that in regards to your heart. What is there that you are hanging on to that you need to give to the Lord? Don't hang on to it like that old shirt or outfit in your closet that you know is not comfortable and that you will never wear again. Just go ahead and let go of it.
Obviously, some things take more time to let go of than others. Cleaning out the clutter of our hearts is not easy. We need the Lord's help and we often need the help of others. I encourage you to not hold on to those things that are difficult to let go of, seek the Lord and others to help you.
A look into my heart
As I look into my heart, I know that I need to give God my fears, worries, problems, and anything that does not bring me peace. How about your heart?
Please seek the Lord today and cast those cares on Him, not just because He can take care of it for you, but because He loves and cares for you so much and He wants to help you.
A clutter free house feels amazing! A clutter free heart does too!
